Machine Solutions engineered for packaging success

Lidding station for retail-ready packaging solution is retrofittable

Fri, May 25th, 2007

The LA1000 lidding station was demonstrated for the first time by Smurfit Kappa Machine Systems at the recent Total Processing and Packaging Exhibition, with the kind permission of Dairy Crest. The LA1000 can be retrofitted to existing case-packing machinery to produce a two-piece retail-ready transit pack, which fully satisifies the requirements of the retailers.Lid Applicator

The stand alone lidding station operates on demand, with no control tie-in to the host machine, allowing it to be easilly employed with tray-packers of most makes. It can operate with both top-load tray packing equipment and wraparound case-packers, providing a wraparound lid secured by a combination of adhesive and tuck-in sections.

This proven system, was demonstrated running a typical high-sided low-front display tray. The LA1000 operates with lids fed from a low level magazine and first folds and tucks the lid into the loaded tray below at the face and rear, then folds and glues the sides of the lid to small pre-perforated areas on the base tray. In this way, with the lid tucked in and extending the full height of the tray, stacking strength is improved and there are no glue or tear lines on the facings.
